I thought you might like to see some photos of our new Hanse 320 yacht, 'Discovery' during her handover and first sail out of Hamble Point Marina and into The Solent. What a great experience on the most beautiful winters day in a force 3 breeze. We couldn't believe how well she sailed and how responsive she was.
Showing teak on deck. During removal of tent, prior to leaving berth. Tristan at helm - six knots through water in 10 knot breeze! Single reef. 'Discovery' berthed following first sail. What a beautifully presented yacht! A proud Tristan following first sail in 'Discovery' Edited by JohnA - 21 February 2010 at 13:16 |

Hi Henrik,
Thank you for your kind comments. The pictures were take last Wednesday 17th. February when Discovery was handed over to us. We sailed out of Hamble Point Marina on the river Hamble just off Southampton Water. The weather and sea conditions were ideal and the wind was between nine and twelve knots all the time we were sailing. We sailed down the Solent towards the Isle of Wight and were out a total of three hours or so. We then had to moor at the marina as we needed some time to be explained the working systems on the yacht. She is to be sailed down to her permanent berth in Brixham, Devon in the next few weeks. We will be carrying out some more test sails prior to this and will post our progress and photos here. Incidentally, the cockpit tent was removed prior to the sail test. It was very quick and easy to remove and, later in the day, refit. I'm really pleased to have a cockpit tent as it will be invaluable when in 'port' as a great protection against poor weather. I also had installed heating which I hope to get great benefit from, especially during this rather cold winter weather. I also had her fitted with a Vetus bow thruster (see photo below), something of a luxury maybe! However we used it immediately to help spring her off the nearby fuel barge, when we initially filled up with eighty four litres of diesel prior to the test sail. The gap at the transome is waiting for a bathing platform which is still to be fitted - still a small amount of work in progress! Thanks for your interest, Henrik. It sounds very nice.
I am going to the hanse marina 18 march to look at my new hanse 320 and then sailing her home 12 april, (Gothenburg, Sweden). Hope the ice is gone before that. We have right now 60cm new snow, that was 2o years ago it was so muck snow at the same time here, and it still snowing. I´m looking forward to spring when the sailing period comes. I ask you when the pictures was taken because there is no ice in the marina. I thougt it was ice there too. Hope you´re happy with the boat.
If you have more pictures I´ll be happy to see them, please post them here or mail me Is that a Bowthruster on a 320?
Hanse yachts told me there is inpossible to install a bowthruster on a 320 because there is too lillte space. /Henrik Edited by Henrik84 - 20 February 2010 at 14:38 |

Lovely boat, I envy you on your cockpit tent, I wish I had one on my 301, just to treat it as an extra room when in port. We have heating and it is a god send, as we sail thro the winter, sadly this winter has been the worst.
Good choice of boat.
Wish you happy sailing.

I have also order a cockpittent but mine is another model (see picture below, not my boat).
I also have an ebersprächer D4 heater, we need it here in sweden because we only have summer for 3 month a year. |

Hi Hendrik and Dave,
Thank you both for your kind comments. Yes, the bowthruster shown is on my Hanse320, 'Discovery', and was fitted during commissioning a few weeks ago by Inspiration Marine at Hamble Point marina, who are the Hanse distributors in England. It is the second one fitted by them, the first being only a few weeks previous. They had the help of a local marine company who found a way of fitting the thruster within the hull. the motor has to be angled very slightly to fit inside the hull but, as you can see it looks very good and it seems to works well although it has not yet been used apart from during the initial test sail. I have attached a few more photos of the thruster, and 'Discovery' during her commissioning. These also show the different binnacle which had to be used to fit the Raymarine chartplotter, and a view of the self steering gear below the deck. Your photos of the cockpit tent look very good and I can see a useful teak rubbing strake along the side of the hull. Tents are really useful as they make another room on the boat, useful in the cold weather of Sweden and also that of Barmouth in Wales! Pictures of the bowthruster on 'Discovery' taken during commissioning. Teak deck of 'Discovery'. Photo taken during commissioning. Non-standard binnacle to incorporate wide screen Raymarine chartplotter. Photo taken during commissioning of 'Discovery'. View of Automatic pilot steering gear showing Raymarine and Jefa equipment. Photo taken during commissioning of 'Discovery'. General view of cockpit, also showing teak centre step and main sheet rail. Photo taken during commissioning of 'Discovery'. Regards and best wishes for a good season to come. John Edited by JohnA - 21 February 2010 at 12:16 |

Hi all.
I just returned from the shipyard in Germany after that inspected my Hanse 320 # 430th
I have some questions for you other owners of the 320th The first question is whether there should be this big gaps on the hatch in the cockpit. photograph is taken from the door into the storage room from the toilet. I had some thing that Hanse have to fix before delivery 12th april.
- All the dust inside the boat (alot)
- There was hard glue on some windows
- The roof behind the mast was dissolved
- Toilet door could not be closed
The seller at Hanse Yachts told us not to take of all the plastic over the boat.
We could only inspect the boat from inside.
Here are some pictures. Hope you love them. ice lay like a blanket over the ocean. But we had 16 degrees and you could see how it melted
Now I´m waiting for 12th april to sail her home to west sweden.
Please answer my question about the hatch. Best Regards Henrik |

Hi Henrik
your gap in the cockpit hatch is much smaller than on my 3-years old 315. The transom hatches have 10-15 mm and 50 mm (sic!) on side hatch. Edited by isa002 - 20 March 2010 at 22:23 |
