It's the first week in July and Emilia has not yet been out in the brackish water of the Baltic. All the sails so far has been in the lake Mälaren, or as a friend put it, "indoors".

I mentioned far earlier in this thread that I had celebrated that I no longer had to use Emilia as my permanent home by ordering new cushions for the main cabin but that was a disaster. I had decided to order from a local instead of from one of the bigger more renowned companies and the first batch of cushions looked disastrous. They agreed to remake all the cushions but after six months of failed retrials I had to cancel the purchase. In order to get my money back I had to take it to the court which, on a humoristic side of it was a walk in the park for me considering my previous experience. (You have to have read some of the previous posts to understand what I mean.) However, I turned to another company and for the last three weeks Emilia has new cushions in the main cabin that I am very happy with, even if the celebration was delayed by 15 months.

We are currently in the lake Mälaren, just the cat and I and if I could get out of my berth instead of writing this, we might go through the Södertälje lock into the Baltic later today. But that is not a promise!

Leonardo has really found the best place to stay while sailing. Here he safe on any tack. Even if the winds were very light yesterday he used two paws to hold on tight.

When I first got my gennaker I put the tack on the anchor on the bow roller and didn't need a bow sprit. That was a 10 kg Delta anchor that fits perfectly on the roller but for the last three years or so I have used a heavier anchor and have thus not been able to sail with the gennaker.

I just managed to buy the stock bow sprit that I could really have bought when I bought my boat and the other day was the first time I was about to try it. The condition for gennaker sailing were perfect.

Now, what I didn't know was that the screw that holds the head of the sail inside the sock had come undone so when I hoisted the sail it didn't look so good and after just a few minutes the entire sail came down through the sock and went into the water. So there I was, sailing with the whole gennaker dragging along the starboard side and with the sock dangling freely from the top of the mast. It was very embarassing but no one saw me, luckily.

Here's Leonardo wondering what happened to that wonderful sail that was only up for a few minutes.

I choose not to give it another try the same day and those perfect conditions have not reoccured so no gennaker sailing yet this season.

Today is Christmas Day and Emilia has left her home berth for a few days of sailing on the Lake Mälaren. Today is my fiftythird birthday and I was hoping to enjoy some nice sailing as a birthday present but there was no wind at all so we had to motor. I don't think that's fair! Especially when considering that not every year the weather will permit leaving the marina this time of year. Most years the lake will freeze just around Christmas.

Many happy returns JohanHug. And Merry Christmas too. I envy you having a few days out on the water - even if there is no wind. Best wishes Richard
