Well, the problem I am talking about is a problem with the heat and the disappearing of the LCD. I am not talking about wrong measurements, so, as far as I'm concerned, that's another problem with the IS 20 and not the one I'm running into. Thx for sharing your thoughts guys! |

However, if I'm not mistaken, the B&G instruments are not Simnet connected, but only NMEA2000, right? So, you have to build a new backbone or did you use an Simnet to NMEA2k cable?

SimNet is NMEA2000 except for the connectors. B&G comply with the NMEA2000 in that they use the micro-C connectors as per the protocol.
Furuno already complied with the NMEA2000 protocol when I started the thread I previously linked to ( http://www.myhanse.com/an-alternative-to-the-is20-wind_topic5000.html) so I had to change the connector at that time. I simply cut a SimNet cable and put a micro-C connector at the empty end. Follow the link and you will see my pictures of how I did it! What I am saying is that when I encountered the (insolvable) problems with my IS20 Wind instruments (including the tainted LCD display you have a problem with), the Furuno instrument was the only replacement I could find that you could calibrate. It is different now when there is the B&G Triton display as it is a much more obvious replacement. It is far from perfect but at least it is not affected by the sun the way you describe your IS20 Wind is, and the viewing angle is so great that you can still see the numbers if you are almost behind the instrument. I value that. Johan Edited by Johan Hackman - 08 August 2018 at 21:20 |

Our original Simrad instruments gave problems with ingress of humidity already in the first season. We have agreed a swap into Triton at that point of time.
Triton are great and a real improvement. Nevertheless, we have some NMEA2k / Simnet network issue. Specifically one display (on port side) is having difficulties to get all information permanently. Sometimes it works well, sometimes a sensor is lacking on the display... I did not yet find the patience to go through the wiring. There are some of the Simnet joiners installed: - in the roof at the mast bottom - at the nav place - at the boats aft at the port cabinet ... behind the wheel. In the same place, the shore connection unit is installed Jan

I understand that replacing the IS20 wind with B&G Triton only needs a T joiner to maintain the backbone and a drop cable with an appropriate simnet to nmea 2k connector (which one, please?) to the new instrument.
The B&G will then show all kinds of parameters from all instruments...is that right?

Yes, that is correct. I had IS20 and B&G Triton living side by side for a while myself.
