I want to mount grap rails near the steering wheels before an accident happens. Has anyone done this already an can me give hints and fotos for manufacturing?

If you take a look at http://www.myhanse.com/configuring-my-385_topic7836.html you will see how Mark and Catherine have done this.
I recently got a quote of around £550 to have a pair made up from a company (actually the same Russian speaking Latvians who supply Inspiration Marine) in Chichester, UK.

The contact details for the company who supply Inspiration Marine (UK dealer) with the protection bars are:

Slava Morars or Stas Svarinski
Alloy Boats and Boat Builders
+44 7576197073 or +44 7735999092
alloyboatsltd@gmail.com

They are currently based on Hayling Island, between Portsmouth and Chichester.

I have no association with them other than as a satisfied customer (they straightened my stainless steel  bow/anchor fitting after a gearbox (ok, user) malfunction put a kink in it!).

Edit:  As of late May 2019, these guys have a spare set of rails for a  385.  They received an order for one set from a German owner who had seen this thread and decided to make up two sets.  So if you want a set, make them an offer...

I was wondering about the actual installation of the various grab rails because I am interested in doing this on my 385. How hard (or scary) was it to drill into the steel steering pedestals that the rails are mounted to? That part worries me!

Its easy, but I suppose the danger is once you break through you hit something inside the pedestal?  maybe use a drill with a depth limiter fitted if you have one, or just apply little pressure and take longer?

Marking the holes easy if the handles rest on the floor or locker, might be harder with Samtutuki's design although they do look very nice.  Getting the screws to lie flush requires either a thin screwdriver (because it will be up against the tube of the handle) or a flexible driver.

Before fitting my grab rails I checked with Jefa. The pedestals are made of 6 mm aluminium and Jefa themselves often install grab rails in this way.
