Hi, I'm looking to fit a spinnaker track & pole on Grey Goose (400e from 2005). I'm getting conflicting recommendations on diameter required and whether it should be mast stored. In reality, the pole will spend most of its time polling-out the 140% genoa rather handling a symmetric spinnaker. What's the experiences in the group on diameter and mast storage?
My starting assumption given the scale of the 400 rig is something like 100mm diameter pole for a full symmetric setup but perhaps it can be just 80mm for light duty on the genoa. However 100mm and 4.6m in length seems large and heavy if I don't go the carbon route. thanks Mark

Hi, I have 80mm alu, length 4,62m. I have a light spinnaker so I take it down at 8m/s. Works fine.

We have a 100mm (4") carbon fiber one on Rubato, its oversize in length (16.75') as well to add sail area. This accomplishes 2 things: first, more sail area to help with downwind performance as these boats are heavy and wide, second the longer pole makes the spinnaker bigger at the bottom which helps with stability. The rig is quite tall and high aspect spinnakers are not as stable.

Thanks Steve. Great thinking. Sadly, that size of carbon pole would be wonderful but silly money to purchase in the UK right now. Circa £2200 for even a 90mm/4.9m pole which is undersized from yours at about 100mm/5.1m. I need a source of carbon tube which doesn't have any connection to marine or yachts in its naming!

Yeah, the second you put "marine" on anything it triples in price...
