Hi all, Hanse boats are not so often on the North American market so currently, I consider to buy one with a 29hp Yanmar and I am wondering if that is a little bit underpowered in certain situations? Would it be possible to mount the 40hp Yanmar? It appears to me that there are Hanse 370 versions out there with the 40hp engine. What is a speed average for the 29hp engine under calm conditions? appreciate every information Thanks Christoph |

The 29hp engine is more than adequate for the boat.
The 40hp version is available , however, I have found that the exhaust is much noiser in this version. The important thing IMO is a good quality folding prop. Generally at 2,700rpm we are doing 7 knotts in flat waters. Cruising at 2,400 at about 6-6.5 knotts. We use a flexo fold prop. |

I have a 385 but I think that the requirements of the 370 will be very similar. My Volvo Penta 29hp has always seemed more than adequate coupled with my 2 blade Gori fildingfoldi. I tend to cruise at 6-6.5kts at 2,200 revs, using just under 2 litres per hour. I have done about 400 hours over the 4 seasons I have had the boat.

I too have 29hp.
I get 8.1kn when newly cleaned, full throttle and flat water. This year my boat is dirty and I will barely get 6kn. Against the wind and waves the speed drops a lot. My previous boat was 38', narrower and had an 18hp and was faster against the waves. :-) I don't miss the 40hp thow. |

I use to have a 371 with Yanmar 30 hp. Reached close to 8kn. More importat than hp is that you have the right prop. Original was a 16x10-3L. Swapped to a 17x11-3L. Should have been 17x12-3L to get the full potential out of the Yanmar engine. Mine reved a little bit to much.

When buying our Hanse 370 I had the same question. But because the 40hp has the SD50 saildrive whereas the 30hp version has sd20 it was case closed. You might want to search this forum about problems with "sd50". |

i have the 40 hp version , and this engine is perfect.
Only the sd50 saildrive has every so much time a need to service its clutch, at my boat now the 2e time to do that. The noise is a matter of better insulation. And it has absolute more power and with the two blade folding prop I can do 8.3 knots and upwind it keeps going. But this all is my experience and I think a 30 hp will do OK as well. Gr Marcel

Hi all, is this prop good for my 370e 2006 29hp Yanmar? (17x12-3L) I really need to replace the original 2-fixed-blades prop with a 3-fixed-blades! Cruise speed at 2000rpm gives back only 5.5kn with clean hull...I guess it's poor thing reading your results with different props and same engine. Thanks
