Hi all,

The head door on our 418 has no means to hold the door open. We like to keep the door open when we are not on the boat, so have been tying the door handle to the grab handle near the companionway steps.

Has anyone found a more elegant solution?

Thanks
Gordon

No. I do the same on our 415. It only takes 10 seconds if you keep a suitable bit of string handy. It's annoying if you subsequently want to reach the chart table or beyond, though.

Discrete 3M Command Strip Hook to Head outside wall and 2mm shock cord loop around the handle would work.

I do the same on my H30. If the door remains closed the heat in the head gets hotter than the inside of a car out in the sun. I braided the line, for decorative purposes, which allows the door to stay open and not close when waves cause the door to swing several inches. Has worked well for 10 yrs. now.

We have added hooks like this ...... with two eyes - one stops the hook swinging when not in use.

We installed a magnetic door stop attached to a block of Starboard. There is a hook on the inside of the door intended to hold it open in rough conditions, but the magnet works almost all the time.

Thanks all,

A couple of great ideas, as always.

I like colinc’s catch, that would mean we can leave the door a bit open after showers and the like without blocking access to the stern cabin.

I think we all had similar challengeSmile On our 418 we use a loop of shock cord that hooks over rear heads door handle goes around companion way post and back on to front door handle. Takes seconds and often leave on handle with clove hitch so always ready.

Also in the heads we have a small piece of shock cord and white hooks we use to hold up the large shower seat as if boat leans to port or rocks has a habit of falling shut when using heads!

On a slightly different topic over the season we got a few marks to the interior wood work. Came across a specialist furniture repair company Konig who had some great repair products, the felt touch up pens and special repair lacquer (silk/matt) we found excellent. Well worth a look at konig-uk.co.uk

Cheers,
Jon

I used a simple Magnetic door catch on our 400; works like a charm and is not in the way when the door is closed while underway.
