Hi
Gale Force is now on the hard stand.I am checking thru hulls and changing all sea cocks to Tru Design.

Obviously I am renewing all anodes at the same time.I note there are anodes on the bow thruster but none on the stern thruster. The engineer tells me that anodes will not fit on the stern thruster as there will not be enough room for it to retract if you do.

I would be very grateful for any comments on this.

I have also found very bad osmosis blistering on the rudder but the hull is completly blister free.Again I invite comments on this to.

Cheers to all

Duncan

Hi Duncan
I can't help you with the anode problem, but we had a similar issue with the rudder last time we hauled out but only in a few spots.
I spoke to Jefa about this and they suggested that it was probably because there was water inside the rudder and that we should drill a hole in the very bottom of the rudder and let any water drain out. Then check the seal where the stock enters the rudder. Leave as long as possible then repair.
All the best

Duncan,

There are normally anodes on the stern thruster props. These are smaller than the bow thruster anodes. Get the right size and they will allow the thruster to close. Also there are small plate anodes on both thrusters on the upper arms of the mechanism. They are small and may have completely disappeared. Check the exploded parts diagram fro teh thrusters and you should find them.

Quite funny, because I could easily replace the stern thruster anode with  one I found off the shelf ...but the one for the btr-250 at the bow is a special one, not standard, that is machined in order to fit inside the box where the propeller reside.I remember it's horribly expensive to buy, and it's the only one I still have to replace...

Hello Piero. You are correct about the anode for the bow thruster on the 588. It is slightly different than the 575 which uses a standard aftermarket anode. What I’ve done is to purchase several of the standard BTR250 anodes, and slice them down to about 25 mm thickness (measure to be sure). A cut-off wheel works well. The result is identical to the more expensive 588 anode and fits perfectly.

Many thanks guys.Unfortunatly there is a lot of ignorance on these matter with the people I am dealing with who should know better. If not for your posts I would have missed the small anodes on the legs completely which would have meant no anodes on the stern thruster at all.
All your advice has been taken and the job will completed.

Best regards

Duncan

Thought I would share this pic of the thruster leg anodes which were slightly larger and then were ground and drilled to size very simply and quickly
