    Posted: 29 June 2022 at 18:45
I own a Hanse 370e and I'm looking at changing the mast foot blocks from the standard lewmar ones to something of a higher quality, durability and strength. I'm looking for blocks with a pin size of max 6mm and a fork width between 12mm and 20mm. Safe working load as high as possible, minimum 800kg.

Through a couple of older forum posts I have discovered the Garhauer 30 and 40-ls-us blocks (e.g. https://www.garhauermarine.com/shop/mast-boom-mast-boom-blocks-hardware/mast-blocks/mast-block-40-ls-mc/) which people report will fit on the Hanse 370. However, the posts are almost 10 years old and I have just communicated with Garhauer which tells me that the pins on both blocks are 1/4 of an inch which would make them 6,35mm and thus too large.

Can anyone with hands-on experience with the current versions of these blocks tell me the pin measurements?

If anyone has other recommendations for blocks that would fit the requirements that would be great as well.

Rutgerson do a perfect block, with two small washers to fill the gap either side of the block teeth and a spring to hold it up - perfect ! It fits existing pin on 2007 370 spar craft

The load on the block is well within tolerance too.

Rutgerson were the best perofming block I could find that fitting the small pin ( 6 mm maybe I seem to recall)

also for that size they  had the best SWL  and best price.

REGARD  the gap between the two teeth of the block fitting you have about 1 mm spare to the pin, if it pulls to one side you get 2 mm one side and it wont pull equally under load not good, the washers center the load.

Anyway....... I will put a link below to the exact blocks I bougth

As said they fit pins in 2007 370 ( with  washers to center)

Thanks Andrew, those look perfect. What exactly do you mean by washers? I assume some kind of metal disk?

Hi Mads K

I use Rutgerson B300601BF12. They have working load 1150kg and breakingload 2100kg.

Think your 850kg is on the small side. The halyards/jibsheet might not go streightt in and out of the block but might have an little offset angle.

I highly recommend the Rutgerson

I can report that the Garhauer 40-ls-us blocks were easily adapted to fit on the 370 mast foot plate.  I replaced all of my mast blocks with these over this past winter.  I simply used a suitable drill bit to very slightly clearance the holes in the mounting posts to accept the 1/4” pins.  I am very pleased with these blocks.  The quality is excellent and great load capacity.

Mads, if you're interested in buying two scarcely used Garhauer 40-LS-MC (https://www.garhauer.dk/shop/35-maste-blokke/131-masteblok-i-rustfri-syrefast-poleret/) without the pin (https://www.garhauer.dk/shop/45-diverse-dele-til-blokke-og-mast/133-montering-for-masteblokke/), you can buy mine. Guessed by your name, you're also based in Denmark ;-)

I bought them for our Hanse 315, but they are a bit to "long" for our small'ish boat, so the halyards are chafing a bit on the organizers. (Actually it's the block of the organizer that is chafing a little on the metal piece holding the blocks together.

My dad is sailing our boat at the time, but it should be back in Lynæs some time next week.

Thank you Kox, I appreciate the offer. I must admit that expanding the pin holes, even if only slightly, worries me a little. Given that the Rutgerson solution exists and works "out of the box" I'm tempted to go with that. How did you manage to fit the blocks on your 315?
