looking to set up a gennaker on my hanse 400(2007) on the bow sprit. I need to purchase a bow sprit first but wondering if anyone has this set up.
eg does the halyard go to the top of the mast? or the ring that is presently close to the headsail/forestay head? north sails looks like a good system(helix) on another note has anyone seen an aftermarket stainless fold down transom please, it would really help our holidays thanks eoin

Hallo,
I have the factory delivered set up, however you need to strengthen the bowsprit with a waterstay (I hope this is the proper translation) I would not advise to use the ring close to the forestay if you go for a Code 0 (75 m2), the top swivel of te Code 0 will touch the swivel of the Genoa furler and get tied-up. We did not have this problem with our "normal" genaker (130m2) Depending on the size of gennaker you might fit an extra "ring" app. 30 cm above the forestay. We do use the code 0 very often as it is a great addition to our selftacker. Good luck with your considerations. Wilko

Hi Eoin - in addition to Wilko's post the pictures show the setup on our H400; we use a short soft-shackle to raise the furler above the rollbar of our Rocna which works well. The G0 from Kemps has proved a fantastic buy at about £4500, saving us many hours of engine-time this season as well as giving serious increases in boat speed and fun. I looked at the North offering which was very good but their quoting system was opaque; it had more than doubled by the time all necessary bits had been added and we decided it just wasn't worth the extra for our type of sailing.
If you put 'stern platform' into the advanced search you'll find a good number of threads dealing with that issue. Although ours is fixed, as you suggest it makes an enormous difference to accessing from boat or sea. Do you really need it to be folding? Good luck! Iain ![]() ![]() |

Great replies, really helpful
Thanks Eoin It will hopefully make the downwind travels so much easier and reaching also Transom platform would be great if it can fold as we mainly in Greece for the next few years and sterning to can get difficult Do t want to compromise transom

Bear in mind that you will need a passarelle in Greece. This may mean that a stern platform is redundant.
I usually attach my passarelle to the top of my (458) closed swim platform / transom which gives a near horizontal angle to most town quays. Having said that, there are some lower quays or pontoons and we then use the socket for the swim ladder with the swim platform lowered. An attachment around cockpit deck level would probably work with either low or high quays without as excessive angle.

Hi Eoin - regret I'm far from the boat for a long time so can't get measurements but I'm sure there are others here who could help. The part was a standard Hanse fit. I had a quick look on the 'Boatoon' spares website but couldn't find it; perhaps you might have more luck, or someone might have one spare as there seems to be quite a few H400's without one that might be lurking in a locker. I think (though not sure!) that the fit for the H370/371 was identical so maybe you could widen the search a bit.
In the unlikely event that someone else can't provide the measurements, if you have a S/Steel fabricator you trust you could always just use the internal dimensions of the socket and the distance between the fittings for the head of the jib and gennaker on the mast as a guide for length; you'll have to make some allowances. Obviously the intent is to have the luffs of the two sails parallel with enough space between them. It's well worth any hassle - good luck! Iain

This gennaker pin is an item where the retail price differs more than €100 If you see two almost identical posts, it is because one is awaiting the censorship. ![]() Edited by Captain Cook - 20 November 2023 at 11:00 |
