After 8 years around the world we landed into Les Sables d'Olonne on the 10th of July, last year.
Uhambo is on the dry in Nantes for an extensive checkup, and will be back in the water beginning of April.
We are planning to move to the North of Europe for the next two of three years. From Nantes to the Scilly, Ireland, Scotland, the Caledonian Canal, and strait to Bergen. and then spend the best of the summer season in the south part of Scandinavia before wintering somewhere in Denmark or Germany.
We will fly the myHanse burgee anytime we stop and will appreciate any idea, contact, recommandations fellow Hanse owners could bring.

We are based at Largs in the Clyde, so we know a bit about the West Coast of Scotland.

For starters, get the Welcome Anchorages book describing Scottish anchorages.  You can download the 2016 edition from

http://www.welcome-anchorages.co.uk/

They will issue the new edition around March and after that date, you will be able to pick up hard copies from marinas and chandlers.

The website Sailing Almanac website has some good passage plans

http://sailingalmanac.com/Almanac/Navigation/northchannel.html

Most people reckon May and June are the better weather months and August is monsoon and midge season.  Last year, the weather was good until the Scottish schools broke up at the end of June and it was poor until they went back in Mid August.

Later in Spring, I will go to the CYCA website

http://www.cyca-online.org.uk/

So you can see where the race meeting and musters are, so you can see which will be the crowded harbours.

If you fancy some wild anchorages, then the Antares charts are good.

http://www.antarescharts.co.uk/

We always say pick up a CalMac ferry timetable as soon as you can, as it will save you suddenly being surprised when one comes round the corner.

For the canals, especially the Crinan, we have some long shore lines that we lead through the mooring cleats  (or in our case through pulleys on the cleats) that we can take back to the winches:  Bow line to the genoa winch and stern line to a cabin top winch and this makes holding the boat still in the locks so much easier.

Regards and have a good trip.  PM me if you have any questions and I will see if i can help.

Thank you very much for your post. It looks that it will take more than a while to visit all that places

Hi Alain
I bought my H385 for launch in 2015. My plan was to spend our first season in the Baltic before heading back to UK and onward.
Two years later we are still in the Baltic and planning to over-winter again in 2017/18. We have returned to Greifswald each winter. The team there are very efficient and can offer various storage options at reasonable cost. I can recommend this. Reasonable flights to Berlin and then train or coach.

Martin and Rene are right the anchorage magazine is a must, it is downloadable.
I would be surprised if you don't take a couple of years to do this part of your trip.
I have sailed the west for a number of years and am now based in Stranraer Marina.. within striking distance of Distilleries, and the islands and canals.
All the best..

Hi Alain & Ann,
I enjoyed reading your blog from your adventures abroad. My previous boat was the same as yours, and it was lots to learn from your experience.

About your cruise in Scandinavia, I would recommend the archipelago along the west coast of Sweden (from Gothenburg and north) and the east coast of Norway (from Kristiansand to Oslo). There are a number beautiful small islands, fjords and charming small towns. Just stick to the routes marked in the drafts and you will be fine (outside the routes there are many reefs/underwater rocks)

(I know this advice is a little late, but hopefully it still useful)

Cheers

Further to my previous post and to endorse seileren1 we are spending our third season in the Baltic exploring west coast of Sweden and southern Norway.
The archipelago north of Göteborg is delightful but now we are in Norway I have to say we appreciate seeing forest covered hills rather than bare granite.
Fantastic cruising if a little cold!

Hi All,
A few things happened since my previous post.
We decided not to sail this year and Uhambo remained on the dry. The simple reason was the Captain has to have his two hands repaired due to Carpian syndrom!
Not very useful when sailing!
That's why we didn't appear!
We will be crewing a friend's boat from Inverness to Le Crouesty, between the 26th of August and the 13 of September. This is not a Hanse but a 57ft Garcia named Balthazar.
I wil take my Hanse burgee with me in case of!

Congratulations Alain. I followed your journeys with great interest, we only made it as far as Polynesia before slowing down.

All the very best of luck into the future
