I am new Hanse 411 owner and am considering buying a larger head sail for the boat. I am wondering how a larger sail will impact the boat's pointing ability. I understand the boats were offered with the option of a 140, and have seen posts about people using a 105, I was considering something in between, about 120.

for high pointing that gives you the worst result. Either 140 or 105. Depends on your wind situation.
On my 370 we are happy with the 105 above 7kn TWS BR Thomas

So your advise is to go with either the 105 or the 140, but not the sizes in between. If using the 105 are you sheeting between the shrouds?

I have a 140 an my 370. It is perfect for sailing up to 13-14kts true upwind. Downwind is more wind no problem. With the 140 the boat sails brilliant starting from 4-5 kts (better5) of wind. In less wind <=3-4kts the 370 is glued to the water.
The selftacker we use starting from 10 kts and more wind upwind. Downhill you aleays look for more sailarea like a gennaker. I have 105sqm |

we have sailed with a 105 for 12 years but turned back to the selftacker last year. Not being a racer but making longer tours we find the selftacker in combination with a code 0 and a gennaker the best option. I bought a optimal selftacker from Quantum (carbon and technora membrane sail) and it performs fine from somewhere around 10 knots and upwind already with less wind. with lighter winds we use the code 0 (80 m2) which we can point somewhere between 35 and 40 degrees.
