I've bought an electric bilge pump for my 301.
We've never had one before but after a 15-hour night delivery to our new cruising ground (Milford Haven) one of the seacocks sprang a considerable leak so we have hauled out to replace all of them (they are the original, pretty sure non-DZR, and their time is up). Anyway the bilge was filling up at quite a rate and now we are no longer keeping the boat close by (it is a 2 hour drive as opposed to 20 mins when we had it in Cardiff) I have decided she should have an automatic bilge pump in case something similar happens when unattended. I've bought a Whale supersub becuase it is small enough to fit into the shallow bilge. Question is I'm not entirely sure of the best physical route to get the wiring back to the battery. The battery is in the usual position under the starboard side of the stern berth. The nearest bit of electrical installation to the sump of the bilge (under the table) is the fridge pump, which is fitted in the locker under the starboard saloon settee just left of the cooker. If I could get the wiring to this point I could just follow the fridge wiring run back to the battery. Obviously I don't want the wires sprouting out of the floor anywhere so somewhere or other I need to drill a hole in the inner moulding under the cabin sole to get in between the inner moulding and hull and run up into the starboard settee locker. Questino is, has anybody done anything like this and how did you do it? Any examples of running electrical bilge pump wiring on a 301 would be appreciated. Cheers |

Check out "wesailhanse.se"
Manuals, electric drawings ......you name it - for 370 mainly, but also for other Hanse models. |

Hi, your bilge pump should be wired directly to your battery, in my case its factory wired to circuit board that has terminals that are live 100% of the time.
This was bilge pump remains on standby ready for the float switch to active it in the event of a flood even when your battery banks are turned off. If you wire it directly to the battery posts dont forget to add a fuse on positive as close to battery as possible. |

Yes, thanks I understand all that. Still seems nobody has actually fitted one to a 301 :(

I was thinking about where to fit an electric bilge pump and considered the aft void by the heads door as another possible location. I realise that the hoses for the manual pump come to the keel top sump under the table. Either location involve getting wires through the inner moulding to run up to the starboard side and back to the house battery. I am thinking of getting hold of an endoscope and having a look. I suppose the only other alternative is to try and follow the same route as the eggsisting hose. Sorry about the spelling but the EGGS key isnt working!

Crazy as it sounds that hadn't occurred to me. They get to the pump diaphragm under the port settee somehow. Might not be impossible to get the wires back to the electrical box and thence to the battery, and that has the advantage of being able to attach the switched positive wire to an actual existing switch on the panel. A possibility. |

I ran the wires through the so called "tunnel" which runs across the under the floor port to starboard between the void mentioned above and bilge, up to the switch panel, where I have a switch for manual or auto aoperation of the pump.
Just keep the wires as high as possible to avoid being submerged |

Hi, sorry I got no drawing to present, but basically I took power directly from battery on port side and brought the cables in the tube in below the hull and floor circled to the starboard side of the "bath" drilled hole to access the keel compartment. Waterhose goes out also from same direction, all the way in between hull and inner floor, exiting next to diesel tank, then at the rear compartment made the hose look like swan neck and drilled last hole trough the hull.
hope this was helpful and encuraging enough to do it, automated bilge pump is a must (imho).
