Hello, I'd be grateful for some information. I've been researching a prospective new yacht in the 45-50ft range. I'd pretty much made up mind on a 445/455 or 495/505. All was well, until I learned more about the 470. They seem to be very well thought of by their owners. Steel frame, big rig, sea kindly galley and a lovely looking yacht..
Could you help me understand the stowage available? If you don't have the heads right forward, is there a sail locker aft of the anchor locker? How big are cockpit lockers and lazerettes? I know it's a bit of s difficult question to answer but any idea you can give me would be useful.
Thank you and safe sailing. Jim

Hi jim
I own a H 430e which is a slightly smaller version, I can tell you there is no sail locker forward ,however really big cockpit lockers and lazerett ,
You do realise they don't make this model anymore,so it will be second hand.
Very nice yacht though.

Jim,

Ours has two sets of heads and you'll see if you pull up the specification on the internet the 3 different internal layouts.

The whole width across the stern, deck to hull and about 1.2-1.5m wide is the rear locker.  Although I liken this to a chest freezer, if you keep adding things on top you'll not get to, or remember what's underneath.  A friendly chippy could make you a frame either side so you can utilise the space better, but without forgetting access to the diesel fired heater unit(s) and other items.  You could, of course, sacrifice one of the cabins and turn it into a workshop come sail store.

One of the articles in this forum is of a chap taking his 470e around the world, he's also sacrificed the shower in the Saloon heads for temporary food storage.

I have a Gennaker (170msq) and a code 0 (110msq).  One is kept under the master cabin bed and the other, is currently on top but is moved to the cabin adjacent to the galley (the doors subtly wider).  I dare you to try a 470e and opt not to purchase it, but, as always, it depends on what you want out of a boat.  We live on board ours for a period of 6 weeks over the summer, I'm 6'2"(1.88m) and I'm still impressed with the space.
