Hi Togeher,

this weekend i was trying to sail (gave up after i saw the wind speed reach 30 knots, which is still too much for me) when out of the blue, the starboard triton display "reset" and got stuck... the pic is attached. it didnt  shut down/powered off, but went back to a kind of boot status...
on that state, the buttons do not work
after the day was over, tried to find it from the main display, but the device was gone from the NMEA network. i power off and power on the navigation system from the main control panel and it started to work again ... after 15 min ... dead.... power off/on .... another 30 min died again....
i tried to find the cables from below the deck and could not find it (seems to be in a separated compartment, without direct access from below and no access from the starboard locker).

i was about to unplug it form the top of the deck to check the connectors, but i was unsure how to pull it out and call the day...

seems to be a "short circuit" or "loose cable" of some kind...

so my questions:
1) anyone experience this before?
2) anyway to reach the cables from below or should i pull the display out?
3) any ideas of what could this be or where to look?

thanks for any advice!

You may find you need to reduce the file size to get your images uploaded.  The process is a bit flaky and (for me) always gives an error dialog even when it works.

I can't help with the Triton reboot issue although I had similar with my Zeus which was resolved by deleting my stored tracks from the memory.

The Triton has a single NMEA 2K cable wgich has a screw connector so this is unlikely to have become loose.

Not sure if the 345 is similar to the 385 but I have also been unable to find out how to gain access to the starboard Triton.  As you say, it appears to be in aseparate compartment.  It might be possible to gain access from the starboard locker as I can see cables running there but haven't been able to get my hand through the tight access hole.

The port Triton (which is accessible) is secured with a backing plate held on by wing-nuts so you cannot just pull it out from the front.

Hi, on our 415 the Triton display can be removed by twisting it anti clockwise and lifting it out from the backing plate.
Good luck

Hi
Usually triton instruments are secured with two screws. You need to look beneath the instrument from inside the locker. When you unscrew then as Paul said turn counter clockwise to remove. In our 345 it isnt secured with screws but it is in 285 and 455.

After removing try to swap with the starboard side. Then you will know if it is the instrument or the cables. After every connection you should renew sources list.

Hi,
update from my side, as it might help others.

1) as said above, on my 345 the triton can be removed by twisting counter clockwise.
2) i swap the port triton with the starboard triton. the result was that the "new" startboard kept failing. so that leads me to think that something is wrong the NMEA cable (which thankfully is cheaper than a new triton).

thanks for all the help!

Luis
