Hi,

I do have 2 quetiosn about the standard VHF from the H345.
the unit is a RS35 from Simrad. I hope someone can advise:

1) DSC not receiving calls: i tried bto use a MOB1 from Ocean Safaty, but the DSC never trigger the DSC incoming alarm. after that, i used another DSC radio and tried to call my MMSI. the call never came. funny enough, when i tried to call my friend MMSI the system is working fine. so basically, the radio seems to start DSC calls, but not receive them. I though there maybe some configuration is wrong (like a do not disturb kind of config) but after checking everything i cannot find any option that could address the problem. Any Ideas?

2) the second issue is the remote unit (i think it is called HS35) i doesnt work at all, the impression i have is that the battery is flat and the charger is not working. anyone have any idea on how to charge it? at the moment, I cannot judge if the issue is on the handheld or the charger, so any advise on how to start a troubleshooting there would be great!

thanks!

Luis

Hello Luis,

sorry I can't help you with the 1st part of your question.

Concerning the 2nd part I can inform you that I had the same problem with my handheld HS 35.
It was impossible to determine wether it was the charging cradle or the battery in the handheld.

I disassembled the handheld and charged the internal battery using a stabilised variable voltage supply. The internal battery is a  3.7 Volt / 1000 mAh , Dimensions: 50.8 x 33.5 x 5.9 mm , PRT – 13813 ;Supplier: Sparkfun . It charged fine. So the culprit was the charger. This was confirmed when my dealer let me use the charger on a new H 345 fresh from the yard, which charged my handheld.

I ordered a new charger from the local Simrad dealer, price was in the 50 € range. However Hanse must have a fuse in the charger supply, as the wires always had 12V even with the mains switch in the off position. I still have not found this damn fuse, it could be the same as the VHF fuse, but I am not sure.
So I carefully removed the two wires from the defective cradle and connected the 12V supply from the new cradle by soldering it to the  old one, being extremely careful not creating a short circuit! I then insulated both wires with a thin shrink sleeve. The problem is the hole in the wall which is barely wider than the wire with the insulation.

Luis,

Problem 1 - there is an option to turn the DSC Function on or off. To check this setting press and hold down the CALL/MENU key. By Rotating the channel selection dial scroll down the next Menu to you get to DSC SETUP and enter by pressing the channel selection dial. Scroll down by rotating the channel selection dial and then enter on the DSC FUNC option. Select "ON" and then press the X button to back out of all the menu options. Apart from this function I can't see any other way in which the DSC would not be receiving.

Problem 2. There seems to be an issue with the charger. We had ours replaced under warranty once. Some people suggest you remove the radio handset from the charger and not leave it charging continuously. Probably better to fit a switch so you can leave the handheld in the charging bracket but have the charger turned off. Then only turn the charger on for a few hours as required.

I found the fuse of the charger (as I bleuw it by accident), is the same as the VHF. I now installed a small switch to be able to switch of the charger while the handheld still be8n& securely stowed in the handle.

The VHF fuse is not in the Würth panel but in the lower panel, it is no. 2.11, in the most upper row left, the fourth one, 10 A.

By the way, the handheld can also be charged by USB, there is a mini USB connector at its bottom.

Best

thanks all!

i dont remember if i have the USB connector in the bottom. i will have a look next time. if i dont, i will follow the disassemble route to charge the battery.

on the DSC, I found that ON/OFF option. it is ON. what intrigues me is that the radio is able to make a DSC call, but is not receiving it.

I will try my luck with Simrad support, but i have very low hopes that they will be able to help...
if anyone have any further idea I am all ears :)
