I'm having a canvas cover made for my 348 for keeping it mast up on the hard in cold northern Ohio. Someone suggested fitting the cover after removing the stanchions to protect against damaging them in strong weather. Any thoughts or experiences you might share would be appreciated.

Hi BB,
same here in Switzerland. Removing the stanchions gives you a steeper angle for the cover, forcing the snow to slide down. Of course pulpit and pushpit stay on. |

The
yard at Greifswald remove the stanchions when shrink wrapping the boats for the
winter. I guess it depends on your cover design which could have cutouts around the stanchions.. I have just had a tonneau
cover fitted to protect the cockpit teak and this fits flat right across the boat
below the stanchions. |
