Hi Guys,
Does anyone have experience with the Isotherm fridge in the tropics? I spoke to someone who thought that the standard 415 fridge couldn't keep up with the heat, ran constantly and drew a lot of power. As we are taking ours there soon, it would be good to know in advance. Thanks!

Hi, Night Train has been in the tropics all the time, first in Singapore and now in Phuket, so I am not sure how the fridge works in cooler climates! We haven't had any problems with it at all and it certainly isn't on all the time.
As others have noted it tends to frost up quite quickly which maybe made worse by the moist humid air, but we are careful to dry it thoroughly after de-frosting. If loading it up with lots of stuff we give it a helping hand with a few large bottles of frozen water. In terms of power used I don't know what % it uses against all the other things, but on our last 5 day cruise we found running the engine for an hour or so each day was sufficient, although we do have 250w of solar panels on the bimini All the best Paul

I do not know the layout on a 415, but it seems that generally the compressors are stuck in a locker space and so the cooing fins do not have much airflow on them. This is the mod I did on my yacht.

The article is not now correct, as I have switched the fan round to pull air from the bilges and blow it into the saloon. Initially I was worried that people dining would not want cold air on their legs. Also lag the coolant pipes.
