The traveler with the cleats at the car tend to be more efficient as you are pulling the car along the traveler at the same time that you are pulling the control line. You can also get better leverage on it. 4:1 is about right there is little room for more & less is not enough.

I also suggest you:
- put in place a dyneema 8mm for the backstay - install a pneumatic tank- I installed a Seaflo accumulator tank, 0.75 lt - for the water pump (to avoid on/off pump working). - change the original screw-type seawater valve in the SD with one with a lever

Thanks!
I understand your point of view, but is not it harder when you sail alone?

Hi ctpgood,
Thank you for your cooperation! All experiences are good for me. This is our first boat as owner and also the first Hanse. Please explain what SD means? THX

Re the backstay. If you decide to improve it I have recently written an article for Practical Boat Owner magazine ( I have written quite a few articles for them with things I have done with my Hanse from time to time) about how to make a 32:1 dynema backstay made with 6mm dynema & 4mm vectran plus some friction rings. One does not need any dynema thicker on small yachts like ours. If at some time in the future you decide you might like to try fitting one then I would need your email address as it is quite long. It does have all the dimensions plus pictures & instructions. here is a part picture of my old one fitted to my boat. I sail single handed most of the time & find it much easier to adjust when on my own As an aside, you might note the sliding back rest for the helmsman & the tubes for the heaving line & danbuoy. You can also see the black post that carries the Echomax radar reflector. Another one the other side carries the AIS aerial which can double as a spare VHF aerial in the event of a dismasting

Hi. SD is “sail drive’. This is a link to a thread about the water intake valve http://www.myhanse.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=9673&title=sd20-saildrive |
