Hi
Encountering problems with my AP24 autopilot for the past season. The unit boots up ok although after a short time “ no autpilot computer” appears on the control panel. On most occasions this disengages the drive but not always.
Simply pressing the stand by button followed by reengaging the auto function sorts the issue for a minute or two before the fault reappears.
I have checked all the connections to the computer whilst the Simnet appears to be working ok ( all the components are “visible” from the plotter)
Has anyone experienced similar issues? If so, feedback on possible cause and repair would be appreciated.
Thanks

Mike:
We had somewhat similar problems last summer, although I could not get it to do much after a while. My electronics guru (Pete at Seacoast Marine Electronics in Oriental, NC) told me that there is a known issue with the AC12 computers being a little underpowered for boats our size and he had seen this before. We ended up having to replace the AC12 computer with the NAC-3 computer and replace the controller too since it was not compatible with the new computer. We have not had any issues since. Perhaps you are having a different issue, but that is what we had to do.

My Vhf sends Ais data on the network and I have the same problem when I turn it on.

Thanks for the feedback. Further investigation I leading me to the conclusion the issue may arise from an intermittent connection/ fault on the sim net.
The “no autopilot computer” alarm now appears to be caused by the computer loosing the compass signal even though the RC42 unit remains visible on the net work.
Frustrating as it’s difficult to diagnose.
I’ll seek specialist advice although much of the system is now 12 years old & probably in need of renewal/ upgrade!
