Hi Peter I'm the grumpy old guy, who is the most suspicious person north of the Swiss Alps. - That is, I have made a few remarks about trolls and other persons with not so nice intentions with their posts. I have made a suggestion, that old and new members alike publish their hull number with their avatar, just like it is common politeness to tell us, which sea you are sailing on. Lately I have seen quite a few posts with complaints about the various Hanses. As you may see in the search forum, I have posted a few complaints myself. BUT - I am not a totally anonymous person. If you read some of my latest posts, you will see, that I am a little sceptic about brand new members screaming "wolf" about this and that, so I have a little favour to ask you: Could you please enlighten an old sailor with a few hard facts, like where you bought your boat, and maybe just like I, display the proud name and building number of the lovely vessel? I am not asking for your credit card number, just a few harmless facts :-) Sailors salute Cook the Captain Edited by Captain Cook - 09 May 2019 at 10:21 |

Surely Peter is legitimate, but captain Cook has a fair point.
This is a great forum, but the low hurdle to entry has its drawbacks. It always felt strange to me that some share real live information/data while others are entirely anonymous. Feels odd, no reciprocity. Of course Joining is everybodies own choice, free world and all, but still. Peter.

Peter,
As far as I know the autopilot on the 588 would be the same as on the 575 which is made by Simrad (B&G). There were two 588's in the marina we overwintered in and these did not have AP issues. I spoke to the owners about various other issues they had but their AP were not mentioned. I have not heard any problems you describe with the AP's fitted to the 575 which is the same hull as the 588 and shares many similar parts and designs.

Hi, thanks for your comment. It’s not the B&G AP, but the Lewmar autopilot motor/drive.

Sorry for the late reply, but I too have had autopilot issues with my 588. It is NOT the same as installed on the 575 which uses a Jeffa system. I’m not sure what problem you had...can you elaborate.
