I too would have taken the vacant berth and then moved the boat across. Similarly if the berth had been in use I'd have fendered up and come to rest and then winched it across if my attempt to catch the pontoon failed.
The worst you can do is struggle and end up with some damage. Accept that the fenders will do their job! When I come back to mine with just my wife as crew I "spring on" and have a spring of the right length for my berth as well as a bow fender! (Our pontoon is like a trampoline until we are tied up supporting it) I find the 370 swings hard "bows in" when docking like this so also have a fender on the front quarter. |
