Has anyone added an accumulator tank to the freshwater system of the 575? I'd like to reduce the cycling of the pump for galley sink, dishwasher and washer/dryer use. If so, what brand/model did you use? How big is the tank? Where did you mount it? It seems like there is room with the pump in the forward head cabinet, but I'm interested in options as well. |

Rick,
I fitted a small 2 liter, stainless steel accumulator tank made by Marco in Europe, Model ATX-2, cost about E90. Because it is fairly small I fitted it next to the FW pump in the owner heads. I was also concerned about the cycling of the FW pump. I fitted it about 3 years ago when the boat was 2 years old. The Jabsco FW pump is still the original. Not sure if the accumulator tank has extended the life of the pump but it does reduce the constant start/stop of the pump. A larger accumulator would be better but at the time I couldn't find a later SS accumulator. I have since seen larger units (8-20 liter)which are for domestic/household use and are painted steel.

I fitted a Groco PST-1 on my boat (a Dehler). Unlike some of the smaller accumulator tanks, the installation manual for this one advises fitting it as far from the pump as possible. Mine is installed near the cockpit shower. Pressure is easily adjusted using a bike pump.
It's available from Defender for about USD 90.

By the water pump I have a space where I could mount an 8" diameter tank that is 12" long. I like the idea of mounting it somewhere else, though... I can get a bigger tank and not impair my ability to replace the water pump quickly (it is easy now). The GROCO says it can be mounted anywhere in the cold water system on the pressure side of the tank.. Before I go looking for mounting locations, anyone have any nice locations they can recommend?

Rick,
On our boat the fwd floor void aft of the bed and port side near the head is virtually empty. It has the through hull for the RW for the fwd head but that is all. Plenty of space to fit a larger tank there. I think you could run the required water pipes to and from fairly easily.

Water heated from 20 to 80 degrees is expanded by about 2%. If the hot water tank is 30 liters, it becomes 0.6 liters. The 0.6 liters must go out of systems, through the safety valve, or somewhere else in the water system. This is why I have expanded the water installation with a 2 liter pressure expansion tank. After this improvement, there is no longer water under the floor. |

Hi, I managed to find room for one of these just under the kitchen sink:
Impressed by how long it holds the water-pressure in the system. Would have guessed there might have been some small leakage back through the pump or in some taps or couplings. But when I have not used the boat for some weeks, I may still get water out of the tap before starting the pump when coming back. Have mounted it this way to be able to empty it together with rest of the system before it freezes in the winter: |

I ended up putting it in the forward head, next to the water pump. Works fine and it fits without impacting the ability to open the head discharge valve. I ended up giving it a few pumps but it pretty much works right out of the box... |

On my 505, the accumulator tank snugged in nicely in the forward head adjacent the fresh water pump, just behind the basin drain. Easy to install and a major improvement.
