Hi there, i just registerd on this forum because we are considering buying a 2009 Hanse 320.
Are there any tipical things we should pay extra attention to when examinging the boat? Are 2009 320 (or 320's in general) notorious for specific failures/defects? All tips are welcome!

Check mounting of the windows in the hull. They might come loose. Then they have to be remounted again (cleaning, sanding, gluing).
Inside: standard not seaworthy. When opening a locker under sail, things will fall out. This can ofcourse be modified. Not a lot of grip inside under sail. Can also be modified. Mastfoot: check mounting of the blocks in the mastfoot. Not the best mastfoot. Mounting of the keel: very stiff. Very good, there should be no issues with that, if the boat is okay. No other specific things I can think of. |

Check the rudder stock for corrosion - lower it or remove it if you can- and check the bearings .

That's the kind of replies I was hoping for! thank's very much, I will definitely check them when inspecting a boat. The general comments of the interior (not really seaworthy) is very good to know as well.
PS: we have just decided not to rush things and take more time to get to know Hanse yachts a bit better.

Ours is 2008 and we find it a very well made boat, except for the windows of which there are numerous threads on here about. We got ours with tiller steering which can sometimes be heavy. The wheel makes things easier, but that hides the fact that it is heavy - the rudder should be dropped to check for wear on the stock. This year we also replaced all the through deck fittings for the water, waste, exhaust etc and with new brass ones. The yard who did the work reported thatthe inside of the existing fittings were "pink". I dont know whatthat means, but it is not good. If you have the foldng down back step/rear coaming then they develop a crack in the step that rust. Apart from these issues, the boat is very well made and continues to give hours of pleasure to the whole family.

We are investigating 10 years old 320. I wonder how ventilation is organized as I could not find any roof vents which normally exist. Do you need to keep any small windows open all the time? How do we know is the boat so called Smartline model? Does hull contain sandwitch structures? How hull below the waterline is protected under the antifouling paint? Also I am interested to know how lower keel model manages upwind sailing? I would be very happy to receive any help an hints supporting our decision making😊

We just put and offer on a 2008 model. Someone said the hull is balsa cored above waterline. I find it strange for 2008 is pretty new and the company would use balsa they used in the 70's, 80s and 90s instead of foam. Does anyone have any useful info on the hull and deck construction?

After buying h320 2008 late last year, i want to contribute my own small observation.
My boat has sd20 yanmar saildrive. The raw water seacock is terrible design. There are many posts related to replacing it. After removing it o found multiple clams grew inside of it. Obviously, engine cooling would not be good if that would not be addressed. This is not h320 specific issue but since these engines and saildrives are installed in these boats i believe it's worth considering as a must check!
