Johan, your post "Emilia on the move" is amazing. Nice to see that you also play the flute; I'm a professional flute player :)
I was just considering a Lopolight too, very nice ones. What happened to yours, why has it broken? They seem of very good quality and pricey. On the masthead, I'll keep the Simrad stuff, but maybe I'll replace the VHF antenna for a Metz Manta. Sheaves and halyards will be checked and replaced if necessary. I'll receive the boat by road in 2-3 days. Can't wait! Regards, Carlos

Carlos, I am glad to hear that you like the "Emilia on the move" thread!
Is the flute your main instrument? Does this mean that you mainly play classical music? The Lopolight was good but I'd rather have it down at the deck. It is a good idea to put it at the top of the mast but it is unaccessable and probably hard to see for others in certain circumstances. I was also dissappointed that it only lasted ten years. Then it gradually stopped working and eventually died. You should be aware that combining NMEA2000 gear from different manufactures is great but for one thing: calibration. The most important one is the boat speed. The boat speed is calibrated by a factor that is sent out on the network as a PNG. The problem is that manufacturers will have the option to store the calibration either in the sensor itself or in the instruments. This means that there is a risk one brand won't read the PNG that another brand puts on the network. To get True Wind you need to subtract the wind generated by the boat moving forward and that equals the boat speed minus 180 degrees. If the boat speed is not calibrated the True Wind will be wrong. Can we look forward to more pictures of your boat once it arrives? Johan |

Thanks so much, Johan.
Yes, flute is my main instrument and I mostly play classical music; baroque and early music also with an early flute too. I also teach this instrument at conservatory. The boat has arrived, and I finally finished with the mast, so today we've mounted it back to the boat. Nice! we progress at a slower pace because weather is not cooperating. By now, I only have pictures of the assembly process: Arriving, first launching, radar installing and mast mounting. Carlos |

Spend the winter reading a lot on this forum. There is so much good information in it, just remember to put in "any date" in the "advanced search" when you want information on a particular topic like reefing, controlling the jib, snuffers etc.

Thanks! I am very happy overall. Our first testing sailing has gone incredibly well!
Just a single problem appeared: barely leaking hatches. I've noticed in the forum that this is, unfortunately, a common issue with Lewmar hatches in Hanse boats, but given that I have some experience sealing them with Sikaflex 295 UV in my previous boat, now I have a pending task as soon as rain stops. I am in fact eagerly reading the forum, learning and getting so much information really useful. Kind regards
