Folks, I have been through all of the relevant posts and can't find anything that will help me with this issue.
Due to some overzealous guests I think I have raw sewerage in the bilge under the shower tray in my 2008 H350. Without undertaking a detailed inspection, I suspect that the blocked vent pipe has blown off and the small tank overfilled and leaked internally into the bilge under the shower tray. As far as I can see there is no easy way to access that bilge and it would appear from the drawing below that I will need to add an inspection/drain hole through one of the stringers. interestingly the bilges are not symmetrical across the hull center line. Has anyone found a means of access to this bilge? If hole(s) required are there structural implications of drilling the stringers? Could the shower drain hole be used to provide access (not sure what Hanse had planned but replacing the drain hole would currently appear impossible!). Does anyone have the detailed drawing referenced below "Detail Z, Blatt 2"? Thanks for any help! |

Iīll try to
share my experience on removing water from the bilge. I hope it makes sense.
The shower unit is a self-contained unit with a false bottom under the shower drainage. In other words you canīt access the bilge through that. Water trapped there wonīt make it to the bilge. Itīs very difficult to get water up from there. One way is to heal the boat to port on a tack and use a rag to soak up water by the pumps. The bilge can be accessed via the settee on either side of the boat. You can unscrew the compartments (where the batteries are) and you can see that there is a gap between the hull and floor. You can in other words only access this from either side and not from the top. Still, I manage to get all the water out using a rubber tube and a pump and finally a rag on a stick. In your case, with foul water, I would rinse with able of disinfection and fresh water. As said you can access it, not it very cumbersome. I hope it all make sense. Many thanks for this. When you say access from the settee with the batteries, I guess you mean, remove the batteries and unscrew a panel to access along the side of the hull and down into the bilge?
I don't have a photo of the battery compartment to hand so will have to take a look when I am net on the boat. I understand your point about mixing disinfectant with the foul water and pumping out. When you say the shower drain has a false bottom, do you mean there is another bottom under the shower tray before one can reach the bilge. Thanks again!

Hi Andreas,
Short answer is no. I thought the vent pipe had come off and been the source of a leak, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I have noticed there is an issue with the toilet hand pump that needs to rectified, so I wanted to do that first to see if it helped resolve the smell (jockey valve passes back in to the bowl - common wear issue). Unfortunately I have not had much time on the boat this last season, so haven't completed the pump fix, although I do have the parts. Please let me know how you progress. this is probably the worst design element on the vessel, not being able to access that bilge. Simon

Maybe a dump question but, do you still have the (white) PVC hoses? If so they could cause the smell, I'd changed them for rubber lined, odour proof hoses the week after I got the boat.
If you remove the batteries you should replace them to starboard so the boat won't list to port anymore, removing the batteries and the polyester hold won't help to reach the space other the toilet IMHO. Best regards, Rob
