I'm now on the boat in Honolulu. Very happy to see her, but a long list of issues to address.

The bow thruster problem is easy to diagnose after pulling everything out of the sail locker. Unfortunately to thruster was drowned by about 6-12" of water filling the bottom of the compartment. I think the water then sloshed up and repeatedly dowsed the thruster. So now I need to figure out what components need to be replaced, and what can be saved. Does anyone know if the motor can be removed, or will that let water in?

I'm not 100% sure how the water got in there, but the delivery crew was sailing upwind for weeks, and buried the bow many times, so it isn't surprising. Could have been through chain locker, or hatch, or (hopefully not) deck-hull joint.

What is surprising to me is that there is no bilge pump up there, and no drainage to the main bilge. I'd not read that the Hanse 505 had a watertight bulkhead which many "expedition" boats tout as a safety feature in case the bow is holed. But I'm disappointed that Hanse did not contemplate  what to do if some water accumulated in there. And now my bow thruster is very damaged. To complicate matters, there is a 3rd diesel tank up there, and there seems to have been some diesel leakage, so it is a nasty soup. A little diesel goes a long way, and it is hard to estimate when mixed with water, but I think not more than half a liter. I'm not sure if that 3rd tank was a factory option, factory custom, or aftermarket. In any case, I also need to figure out where that diesel is coming from.

Not any questions I can expect anyone to help me with now, but if anyone has any thoughts on
1) How to approach troubleshooting a drowned bow thruster
2) How to deal with water in the bow locker
3) Ideas about the 3rd Diesel tank and leak
I'd be very interested to hear it!

Once you get the bow locker pumped dry, it will be a simple matter to trouble shoot the thruster. There are only 3 main components and they can be checked independently to figure out what is wrong. Some photos of that space would be helpful. I assume there are signs of corrosion but that may or may not have affected anything. BTW, my 588 also has the same arrangement of bulkhead and locker, but I do have a dedicated pump up there. It is not easily seen since it is in a space between the hull and the floor. You may have one as well, but maybe not functional.  I’m sure the diesel tank was done by a third party installer. Hanse will not do work like that themselves. Feel free to contact me directly as I have good working knowledge of the thruster unit.
