I'm late chiming in on this post, but will share my experience in case it saves somebody some trouble with the same problem.   In my case I found there was a junction box for the wind sensor simnet cable, located behind the closet in the forward berth (accessed by removing a panel of plywood at the back of the shelf area).   The junction box was badly corroded and in the end it was a fairly easy fix, though I spent a lot of effort before discovering this hidden vulnerable part.

My troubleshooting wasn't "adding up" until I noticed the cable coming down the mast is a different diameter than the cable behind my instrument panel - so they aren't the same cable!  Sure enough, the "junction" was the problem.  Too bad I had already done a lot of trips up the mast, pulling and inspecting of cables before discovering this.

FYI my setup is the original IS-12 instrument, with a WS608 sensor (replaced the original sensor when the bearings seized a year ago).  IS-12 is "hanging in there" and my CX-34 Simrad plotter has been replaced with a Zeus3.

My simrad IS12 wind sensor was not longer working after 16 years on my Hanse 370 (2007). I just replaced it today with a B&G wind sensor, 608,  part # 000-13714-001, serial # 120405657  which I purchased on line from JG Technologies Ltd, in Weymouth, UK. It was plug and play, but in order to connect it to my existing simrad IS12 display instrument I had to switch on the apparent wind under "sources" on my simrad NSS12 chart plotter.

Service from John G at JG Technologies was excellent, highly professional and very knowledgeable.
