merci for the answers I own a 375 and after 10 years and 37000 miles travelled with sometimes serious problems in 2017 during an ocean crossing, I am attached to this boat, but there are many things that have aged badly (stavrosNZ I thank you for the advice you gave me when I was in trouble in the Caribbean). that was a reason to want to change boats. but what i read makes me want to upgrade my 375 because i prefer a boat that is going well. I want to redo the floor, cushions, rigging, windlass, jib furler, new mainsail and jib, electronics, and a good hull polish. Peter I think you have a genoa and not a self-tacking jib? yes i have a Selftacker and a Genoa
.
In Winds less than 7kn the selftacker with Full Main has not enough sailarea. Than the 370 is going to be slow. With the Genoa it feels like a turbo. Selftacker + Full Main 7kn+ is ok, from 13kn+ upwind it is perfect Genoa + Full Main 3kn true up to 17kn upwind is perfect, 20kn upwind with Full Main is possible but no fun, in More wind i have to reef the Main Genoa + Full Main downwind up to 28kn True no Problem and a lot fun and speed Another advantage of the Genoa is, you can sail it without main and you are still well underway in crusing Mode. You only loose about 1kn compared to Genoa plus Main! |

Yes, it's a very good setup.
I can't use a genoa which is much better for upwind because I don't have a genoa rail on the 375. so I opted for the code 2 of 63m2 upwind 3 to 12kn true ( 50° to 110°) or 180°. Asymmetrical SPI 95m2 ( 100° to 155°) jib self-tacking above 12kt and also in the trade winds with a spinnaker pole. Here. This is the confinement for covid 19 and all navigation is prohibited ....
Take care of yourself. |

very late to this thread, but no way would I trade my 375 for a Hanse 385 or 388. Only thing I would consider as a replacement is the Dehler 38. Even then, as one other poster said, the older Hanses were built to a higher standard of quality before they became such a high production builder.
If you want performance, I believe the 375 is the better platform. It was easier for me to mod for racing. Though the older 370e do weigh a 1000lbs less. |
