2001 Hanse 371 - I am considering g mounting an B & G Radar like a Halo 20 on the Mast. Needing to get power and the cable back to the helm.
Can I fish a wire down the mast?
Is there a messenger line? Where do the wires come into the cabin from the mast? I am 1200 miles from the boat, I forgot to look before I left her. Thank You in Advance

Hello Isabel,
I don't think that they have a messenger line down the mast. Attach a bicycle chain and fiddle it out at the bottom of the mast. You should have there a swan neck, where all the other cables ( steaming and top light, wind speed indicator are coming out. Getting it connected to the simnet, you might find a simnet connector which is also used by the wind transducer. Have you thought about a wireless connection for the radar? Then you only need to worry about the 12 Volt supply going up the mast. There is thread running here in the Forum describing this painful exercise. Good Luck Frank

Thank You Frank ...
I don’t know if I have simnet or not - I have a wind indicator on top of the mast. The wire is not present on the backbone. Have to find it. Bruce

Just thought I would chime in . . . when we got our 385 in 2016 it had the radar mounted on a pole on the starboard aft corner. I was disappointed that it was not on the mast, and thought the pole detracted from the look of the boat. Now, however, I am glad that it is in easy reach. I have had a lot of friends who wish their radar dome is as easily accessible as ours. I think the less things up the mast the better, and if there is any issue I can examine the connection and easily trace the wiring. Just my thoughts on the matter.

Andy - How high is your pole on stern?
Do you have the radar on a gimbel? Any details on the pole? Thank You

I am not sure how high it is but this will give you an idea. It sits on an adjustable mount that allows you to tilt it somewhat. I am not sure who makes it as it was on the boat when we got it. I don't think the radar image suffers much not being higher on the mast.

In the UK these are made by Scanstrut https://scanstrut.com/products/marine/pole-mounts
May give you a point to start from. I've one on the back of my 370. Never had a radar on it, but lots of other antenna - I never got round to fitting the radar... Realistically being low down is not really going to make a vast difference to the usability of the radar. You will probably get between 7 and 15+ km range from the radar on the pole depending on what the target is. More than adequate. Also no need to gimbal the dome as the movement is far less than half way up the mast and being back from the mast will reduce and perceived blind spot due to the mast...
