I was wondering what make/model of liferafts fits in the space in the stern.  I have seen ads for 505s for sale that have one but they never list any specs for the liferaft.  Any ideas?

There is no easy space in the stern.  The space behind the swim platform gives access to the lazerette. You cannot put a liferaft there.

As with other Hanse models you can put a valise raft in one of the cockpit lockers. A four person one fits easily and six person at a squeeze.

Other than that you can fit them to the rail or the cabin roof.

Of these we chose the cockpit locker.  Also had a grab bag and other emergency items in there.

A Viking six man offshore raft in a bag fits nicely in the lazarette, under the cockpit seating. This is a safer place to get to in a heavy sea, than anywhere which would require you to lower the swim platform. It takes up less than half the lazarette if inserted athwartship.

Our liferaft is on the cabin roof as well
Admittedly, a much larger one rated 12 persons due to charter license. Won’t fit anywhere.
Under Cockpit no space (GenSet)
Just 2 things to consider:
1) legal requirements on size of liferaft (boat certificate!)
2) weight of LR and how to get it into sea in case of distress: much easier from cabin roof than from inside a locker etc

Of course, it’s not the most beautiful thing on deck but I learned to appreciate it as a good podest to step on when clearing up the beast of full batten main sail🙂

I have to say I’m surprised that the 505 will only accommodate a 6 person raft athwart ship in the cockpit lockers. I have an 8 person Winslow offshore raft packed in a valise in a cockpit locker athwart ships quite comfortably on our 445. It is surprising that the 505 lockers are narrower than on the smaller boat.

Ha! That’s a little extension so helmsman doesn’t get cooked. It can be folded away independent of the Bimini, which is normal height.
