Andy, to you use a display your sourced in the US?
The European sensors give a reading 0 - 180 Ohm the US sensors give a signal the other way round ( 180 - 30 Ohm ). In Europe they use the "American Signals" for the waste water tenk displays.

During the hand-over of my Hanse 418, the sales representative explained, that the fuel sensor is mounted such, that the upper part of the tank cannot be measured. This explains, why the fuel gauge shows 100% for a long time and then works properly.
During the initial filling of the fuel tank we "calibrated" the fuel gauge: start tanking: 18% after 10 l: 25% after 20 l: 34% after 30 l: 44% after 40 l: 53% after 50 l: 62% after 60 l: 71% after 70 l: 80% after 80 l: 88% after 90 l: 97% after 94 l: 100% In total 128 l have been filled into the tank. We might have stopped filling a bit early - to ensure that no Diesel is spilled. I have this table always on board - helps a lot. But usually I use the following rule of thumb: 1% on the gauge is 1 l in the tank, if 100% than at least 100 l are left! For me this information is sufficient. Hope this helps Frank Hanse 418#182 Miraculix

Frank,
A very useful post, the numbers you are seeing are very similar to our 418 and like your rule of thumb. Every time we fill up we check the amount fueled against the gauge. Typically when gauge reads 100% you can get another 50-60L, (+/- some days, guessing depends on froth and how far you push the cut off!!) We tend to use the following to work out our range. 100% = 100Litres left in tank. 80% = 80L left, so half full 60% = 50L left, don't go below! Not far off to your figures. Jon. 418#44 |

Same 100% full issue on 2019 Hanse 418 - fuel tank is the 160 L - that measures approx 21cm at the deepest point. Considering the Philippi TGT020 tank sensor for fuel SKU: 660117080.
Has anyone installed this one?

I just replaced mine in my 415 with this: I was using a YachtDevice tank adapter to take the signal and put it on the N2K bus, bypassing the wurth panel completely. Since that adapter can be configured to 240-30ohm vs 0-180ohm, this part worked. If you want a straight drop in replacement for the stock sender that the wurth panel will read, then you need something like this: At least on my 415 the tank hole pattern for the stock sender is the standard SAE measurements, so the replacement was very easy. I basically pulled the connector from the wurth panel end, connected the two wires to the tank adapter, and plugged in the N2k into the bus that is in the same location. Very easy, and then fuel level and % will show up on any network MFD. The other advantage to using the N2k adapter is that you can actually program in the non-linear calibration to correct for the irregular shape of the tank. So if you do it properly you can trust the readout is actually correct! Edited by SimonGH - 21 September 2023 at 20:13 |

Simon - are you still using the YD device? I’ve heard it’s difficult to configure?

Yes, still using it and now with that new sender it works perfectly.
And it's not difficult at all - you basically just put a simple text file on a microSD card that inserts into the end. When it powers up it reads the text file and saves another to confirm the settings. You can change the type of sensor (resistive, voltage, etc), set a tank capacity so then it will feed % full and # of liters / gallons, calibrate for non-linear measurements, etc.
Super easy. |
