Had rigger replace bulb on our non-working anchor light (Hella Marine 2884 tricolour and anchor light) but still not working (filament in old bulb was intact). I’ve checked connections at mast base,  in cabin headlining, with voltmeter and yellow wire is delivering the correct voltage 13.4v when switched on at panel and the connection is good to the 3 core cable going up the mast. The other connections being common negative and positive for tricolour (which is working).

Anyone had a similar problem? I’m thinking either the wire may have been pinched at bottom of mast or come away/corroded at unit on masthead.

Unfortunately, I think you know where the problem is.  Last hope is to open the wire up as close to the base of the mast as you can, just to check the fault has not been in the section of wire in the swan neck.

Thankfully my mast is down, but you have however reminded me to check the light fittings and use this gel to reduce corrosion.

We had problems with the halogen bulbs almost every year until I upgraded the nav lights to Hella LED lights year 2012. Since then, no problems with them.

I remember that once I could install the halogen bulb incorrectly: it looked correct but didn’t work. The bulb base should be fool proof, but obviously it is not.

okay I’ll check as close to mast base as possible and lastly will rig up the bosun’s chair - my least favourite activity!
