Hi
We have now had the boat for 5 months and as they say when you buy a second hand boat you are buying someone else's problems. The boat is an absolute delight to sail and we are very pleased however a few bits and pieces where I am looking for advice

1)  Part of the purchasing negotiation was a change of the stern gland/ seal as it was leaking this resulted in a new stern gland/ seal, new shaft and new cutlass bearing along with top price  hourly rates etc. After less than fifty hours use and five months  vibration from the prop has forced us to have the boat lifted and the cutlass bearing has slack up and down. ? any ideas would a warranty claim be reasonable
2) the simrad electronics are a bit of a nightmare particularly as they are all so integrated  just wondered if the wind sensor at the top of the mast is possible to integrate to another system

hello Jim
The shaft vibration and leaking seal is a well know problem on the 540
In the search “540” section “shaft and stuffing box “ you will find some info about this
The Simrad windsensor will do it in to a other system You may need a adaptor cable

Thanks for the response , in relation to the vibration  I have been looking at the issue and contemplating a lot. The cause would appear to be lack of water to the Cutlass bearing thereby accelerating wear as its a blind bearing  The water supply is from a scoop type through hull fitting. The boat has a fixed prop which spins when sailing or I would change it to take the pumped  raw water cooling water as they do on many power boats but it would then not receive water when sailing. Just wonder if anyone has a magic answer

The wind sensor on the SIMRAD/B&G system has a history.   If you have the 508 wind sensor (you can tell by going to the setup and showing all devices on the network), then you should know there have been problems with this device.     The other devices for the NMEA 2000 network are considerably more expensive, but probably more reliable.  You'll see a bunch of other posts in this site on the problem.

I finally got mine to settle down, but the device had to be replaced.
