We are since 3 weeks the very proud owners of the hanse418#191, Marelief. She sails like an angel. We have an CombiMaster Inverter/Charger (12/3000-100) intalled under the couch at port. Even after shutting down the inverter the thing produces an irritating noise. During floating, just after a short tap of water, or putting a light on, the charger starts to operate, and produces 57dB as measured in the standing position in the "living room".
In the installation guide there is a bullit on this subject: If the CombiMaster/inverter is installed in the immediate vicinity of living areas, take into account that the fan of the CombiMaster can produce noise when operating. I was advised to put down all users to provide charging during the night, but that is not a solution to my opinion. Does anyone have the same experience, and did you find a solution? |

Hi Sjaak,, We have the
same problem. I do not understand Hanse installed such a charger/inverter in
the main area of the boat. Mastervolt has no solution, the charger/inverter
needs the cooling and Hanse knew it is producing a lot of noise. The distributer,
West Yachting (NL) told me they do not have solution as well. We have a H 418 since
one year and we are very pleased with the boat. If you may have found a
solution please let me know. Carl

I didn't chose the inverter option, so my H.418 came with a Mastervolt Chargemaster 12/35-3. The charger contains a fan which makes some noise but only when charging from an external source. This is not a problem for me because I mostly charge from solar panels. If I am connected (for example to heat water) and I turn off the charger, the fan stops no mater what electricity I am using inside. If you have an inverter, I do not see why its fan is working while the inverter is not in use and while you are not charging externally. As I see it you could completely shut down the inverter/charger (even by a circuit braker) while having perfect DC current from the batteries. If you need the inverter for short periods of time (typically for a much noisier AC device!) then I guess some fan noise would not be a problem. Aristides Legato

The noise nuisance is not limited to the inverter. I use it very occasionally. The Mastervolt charger takes its task seriously and uses the fan regardless of its temperature. With every discharge it starts and makes noise. When using shore power via the charger/inverter, the fan also turns on. The only way to stop the noise is to unplug the charger/inverter. That is of course possible, but far from ideal.
Mastervolt has advised to do a firmware update and a software update. No improvement. After that, Mastervolt communicated that their equipment has been set up in such a way that nothing can be done about it.
I contacted with someone who had built Victron with passive cooling, if necessary active cooling. Hi Carl and Legato, I have now installed the Victron Multiplus 12/160070-16 myself, in combination with the 712 Battery Monitor and a Victron Digital Multi Control 200/200A GX control panel. That's easy to do. Make sure you have a yellow pin plug with a cable diameter (4-6 mm˛) at hand.
I sold the Mastervolt, budget neutral with the purchase. Very satisfied with both the functioning and the sound produced. Moreover, it is easy to operate with the control panel. So highly recommended. |

Hi Sjaak,
Thank you for this very usefull advise. Mastervolt told me exactly the same story. I agree that installing a Vectron Multiplus is the only solution. That will be something to do next winter. Best regards, Carl
