Hi, interesting that Martin and Rene used the Merlin Rocket analogy, that is the same as we have adopted, swap the the lower single pulleys with one double one on two wire strops as per the pictures below. When close hauled the blocks almost touch each other and the boom is almost centered. Seems to work well.

This is how I did a temporary set up on a charter yacht for a single ended mainsheet, using just the pulleys that came with the yacht and some rope that I always carry with me..
Martin&Rene Hanse 341 Dipper Wheel steering, 3 cabin layout, normally based in Scotland

And our similar approach also on a H345. We have also ceased to use the German mainsheet system, only having the single mainsheet on the STB cleats. Easily reversible if the next owner prefers factory system. 
Hanse 345 - Tenacious. Sailing on the Solent and now to the west coast of Scotland.
