Quick question for the group: the 12 volt socket on our Calera panel has never worked since we bought the boat in 2016 from the previous owner. I have tried to trace the wires and find something wrong but there is no power to the socket. All the other switches work fine. I'm not a great electrician so wondering if anyone had this issue and is there something that Hanse typically forgets to hook up?

Hi Andy,

I would start by trying to find in which section of the circuit the fault lies. Presumably when you turn on the switch/trip on the panel you get the green light? If so it should be just a direct cable run to the positive terminal of the socket, if you have a multi meter you can check if you have a voltage to the positive side of the socket, if yes then the problem must be on the negative side, if no then on the positive side. It of course could also be a problem with the socket itself, maybe a bit of corrosion causing a bad connection, if you can get to the back of the panel with the voltmeter it should help isolate where to start looking.

Thanks Bob - need to get my multimeter out, as I am suspicious the socket is corroded. I want to replace it with a USB socket, so will do what you said in that order. This little project has been so low on my project list that I'm only now getting around to it.
