Looking to purchase Hanse 301. I see they upgraded the hp in 2001 to a larger unit. Is the 10hp engine underpowered & would I be best looking at later models? Thx

Hi, We had a H301: great yacht. Ours had 20hp Volvo MD2020. We sailed her around GB in 2017. I have no experience of the 10hp H301, but if you read the Kim Sturgess account of his trip round GB in H301 in his book 'This Precious Isle' a 10 hp version, he feels that the 10hp was not enough. From this you may take:- if you are coastal cruising 10hp is enough, if you want to do longer trips or have sailing area where you have to punch tides to make your mooring etc, go for 20hp? Either way I recommend the H301 as a great sailing yacht. We curently sail H315 [2007] also great yacht, bit more living space, but doesnt quite beat up wind like the less beamy 301, all yachts are a compromise? Enjoy your Hanse whatever model! Perry
