Want to try a second hand genoa on 2006 315, seems 140% is usual, does anybody know the dimensions for such a genoa so I can seek on sail exchange sites? Any advice and tips welcome.

There is a sail exchange site in the uk that has a VERY bad reputation.I suggest that you go on the Practical Boat Owner Forum & check it out before getting involved with that company by mistake. Name begins witha "W" I seem to recall

Thanks, have enquired with https://www.exchangesails.co.uk/ but they seem to be the company with some bad reviews, will seek elsewhere!

Mine is 135 % & the clew is a little bit too far aft for the genoa car. Partly because it was badly cut by Goacher sails & is higher than I wanted. However, You may want to talk to other users before getting 140%.It quickly overpowers the boat. My clew is too high which brings the sheeting point aft.. Goacher did this (without my consent) to allow a better view under it & to allow it to furl better, even though I made it clear that I never wanted to sail with it furled. I think that whatever dimension you go for you need to rig up a couple of 4mm cords & check that you can sheet at the correct angle. I cannot & have to make adaptions to my cars & the sheeting to the winches. Your ST luff will be the same dimension. Attach a line to the head to indicate the leech & another to the foot & see where they meet in relation to the clew & sheeting angle. Fix them together , Drop the sail & measure them.

hello
I recently measured my Genoa from a 2005 312, with purchase in mind. I cannot confirm the exact percentage of the sail, or differentiate between 130 or 140% by visual means only. The luff is approx 11.55m, leech approx 11.38m and foot approx 4.6m. Luff rope is approx 5mm into either a Facnor or Bamar roller reefing profile. Be aware that the material and cut of the sail are particular choices, partly on behalf of the new owner, along with the sail maker’s opinion. To subsequently cut down a larger sail to fit your boat, there may be considerable affect upon the sail shape. For a new, basic Dacron, cross cut sail, with UV strip, quotes seem to start about £850 plus VAT. Most reasonable sailmakes estimate £1300-1400 inc VAT. |
