thank you Frederick for the above!
You might have saved me £1000! The call from the shop (as mentioned above) to Raymarine was inconclusive "it would probably not work - so we advise against trying" So I'll go ahead and buy just the Raymarine evolution wheeldrive (to replace the Simrad wheel drive) and connect it to the Simrad WP32 control unit by changing the plugs. And if this does not work I could still buy the rest of the evolution kit i.e. Acu 100, sensor and control unit. In that case I would need to build in extension to my pedestal top in order to accommodate the Raymarine control unit. This would - hopefully - not be necessary , however, following your advice. Vielen Dank, Heiko! Wieland "My Hanse" still locates my Hanse 312 in Willemstad, but following 5 years in Greifswald after Willemstad, I am now based on the Orwell river in Suffolk UK. |

Hi Wieland,
I'm not sure that the Raymarine wheeldrive will work with the Simrad WP32 control unit. On the other side...the wheeldrive only gets 12 V input und the polarity defines the turning direction. It's just a motor. So may be it's worth a try. If you decide to buy a Raymarine control unit I would not buy the ACU100 because it is not able to handle linear drives. A linear drive needs some more power (15 A for the DD-1) and also has a clutch. This clutch automatically engages the linear drive when you activate the auto pilot. ACU100 has to low power supply for linear drives (only 7 A) and also it has no clutch output. I still have the Raymarine wheeldrive I removed from the boat avaiable. It now has a new motor / gearbox (around 215 €) and is waiting for someone who want's it. Greetings, Heiko

hi again Frederick
quick question to add to my previous: the plugs to connect Simrad with Rayarine - would I need to find bits from old Simrad/Raymarine items, or could I buy these plugs in a shop??? thank you! Wieland

As far as I know there are only adaptor cables from Simnet to NMEA2000 and NMEA2000 to Raymarine. This makes it quite expensive, so I just cut some Raymarine and Simnet cables into pieces and soldered them togheter again. Inside you only ahave 5 cables.
