Max,

We have not painted our boat. But have your looked at vinyl wrapping instead of painting. It seems cheaper and easier. We were beside a 57ft yacht in Malta which was wrapped whilst hauled out and in the open - not in a shed which is probably necessary/recommended with painting.

We took our boat white from the factory and then had it painted in Bristol, RI by Bristol Marine.   I can share costs, materials, process and pictures if you are interested.

The reason we did it is that we didn't like the way Hanse painted the boat and we wanted to avoid the "road rash" of painting it in Europe and having it travel thousands of miles immediately after.     Hanse does not paint the bulwarks,  nor do they paint the stern.  Some may like this.  We did not.

Its not cheap, especially on the bigger boats.  I used AwlGrip.   I had it on my prior boat for 10 years and really liked *NEVER* having to wax or compound the hull.   Yes.. it can get nicked,  but touching up is usually pretty easy with an artists brush and a small bottle of paint.

The surface prep work is the big cost.   As well as the final "cut-and-buff" to make it really shine.   Ours was done in an environmentally controlled building with special ventilation, lighting, heating, etc..etc.  I would NOT do it outside.

Let me know...
