I have a mix, but is is not my decission. Have a Raymarine C80 chartplotter and radar and Simrad Autopilot, Wind and Depth -  interconnected via an Simrad interface between SimNet and NMEA 0183.

In the beginning I had some problems and wanted very much to have a seamless onebrand system. After I sorted it out it is no problem. Both systems work perfectly, individually and together.

Chosing between the 2 systems is very hard, I agree with those who then let local availability rule. They are both good systems.

I found the following article on the Simrad webpages...maybe there will be fewer brands an more standardization in the future.

Quote:

Simrad's history is filled with entrepreneurs and pioneers who through hard work, passion and technical insight have formed one of the world's most recognized companies in the field of marine electronics.

The brand stems from Willy Simonsen, who in 1947 established the company Simonsen Radio. During this initial phase, the core activity was production of radio communications for fishing vessels. The abbreviated name of Simrad appeared a few years later, and the company went on to gain a leading position in the development of navigation, communication, autosteering and fishfinding equipment.

Through acquisition of strong companies like Shipmate, Navico, Robertson and B&G, Simrad has become one of the biggest suppliers of marine electronics for large leisure boats, as well as for the professional market.

Ingenii arrives in the UK on the 30th April - later than planned but that is boat ownership.  We  have gone for the Electronic Package 2 (the price from the factory is very attractive) with all SIMRAD as well and all the research that I have done suggests that simrad is as good if not better than Raymarine - but time will tell.  The GB 40 looks really good on paper.

Hi

About the RC42/FC40 compasses which goes together with the IS20 instruments and AP24/AP28 autopilots: A new feature is the deviation table (20deg resolution) which is possible to set with a IS20 Graphic instrument.

This makes it possible to get a accurate heading measurement usable for navigation purposes and accurate wind direction calculations.

The new GRC compass from B&G is also made in cooperation with Simrad and have SimNet connectors. This also gives hell and trim measurements and heel compensated rate of turn measurements.

The wind direction can also be trended on IS20 Graphic.

Hopefully some nice features for you!
Øyvind

Hello Tingeling,

What converter do you have. I also have a C80 and Simrad AC20/AP25/IS15 that I would like to connect. The raystar gps is now connected to the simrad equipent. However I haven't got the Simrad info like wind/log/speed connected to the C80. I have a raymarine interface box.

Thanks,

Samba

Finally I have everything working together. Simrad instruments and autopilot with the Raymarine plotter and radar. Once you know how to do it it is quit simple.

The last step was to make sure that the autopilot uses the right NMEA input.

If anyone wants to know more, please let me know.
