We are in the process of completing the spec on our new 430
2 Items that we are having difficulty with is the engin size and prop type.
Has any body with a 430 fitted with the 40 Hp 3JH4 29Kw engin regretted not upgrading to the 55 Hp 4J4H 41Kw option. If so why?
We also want to fit a folding or feathering prop, can any body recommend the one that they have fitted or have experience of.
I have also seen in Sailing today that Yanmar have an option of a 240 volt 3 Kw electric generator fitted between the engin and transmission. Looks a good idea to me or is IT ? has any body got one.

on 'Taduka' I upgraded to the 55hp and installed a Gori 3 blade prop and no regrets whatsoever! the Gori also worked very well and is worth the extra money. I also have pictures of this prop before I launched if it interests you. More information can be obtained from

Gizmo,
As you can read in this thread, I have the 39 HP and am able to do 8 knots with the SPW prop: http://www.myhanse.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1646&PN=2 I am impressed with the power I have got for maneuvering both forward and reverse. If an engine is too big, you are wasting diesel and its lifetime will be shortened because you are not using enough of its power. Yanmar and all the prop manufacturers I asked, recommended a 3 blade for this boat/engine combination. I am not sure, but I think that a 3 blade feathering prop has less drag than a 3 blade folding prop. Moreover I wanted as much breaking power as possible, in case I am misjudging a situation. I am also considering the 230 Volt generator between engine and sail drive. With the 39 HP I think you do not need to change the engine room, because the engine is shorter than the 4 cylinder. If I understand the Yanmar website correct, they do not supply it as a retrofit yet. Reinhard Ermer (Blackelise) should now be able to tell more about his experiences with this generator: http://www.myhanse.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1295&KW=yanmar+generator&PN=1 |

i have 55hp on 411 with Maxprop 3 blade feathering, great power and control in reverse - delivers 5.4knts @ 1800rpm ( forward !).
looked into the yanmar generator, but has to be installed with the motor unless you're prepared to redo motor bedding, not sure both 55hp and alternator will fit?
