Last week we had some problems with water in the diesel. Therefore I needed to open the tank and suck the water out. To my surprise the diesel outlets (the two pipes) are located just a few milimeters above the bottom of the tank. Any water will be sucked right into the motor. Being on the way of solving this the connection from the heater (which was on the second pipe) is relocated to a position after the first filter so the chanse of getting water in the heater is reduced (this was how we found out there was water in the diesel). Good point on the2 fuel pipes, I will check which is the lowest set heater or engine. I checked the tank this weekend and the manufacturers label states 230 lts as the tank is full at the moment I am a bit reluctant to open the inspection hatch I will check them in a few weeks. Ken |

Jens,
As I've stated above in my tank there is no difference in the hight the two pipes take diesel from the tank. In both cases it's about three milimeters above the bottom of the tank. I'm considering ways to change this height. I also wasn't looking forward opening the hatch but found there realy isn't much more to that than opening the ten bolts and removing the plate. Hi Zeester there is little point in shortening the fuel pickup pipe, this will only delay the water being sucked up not stop it. You need to check the glass bowl on the bottom of the C A V filter for water and drain it . If you get a large amount of water in your tank, you will need to drain clean and refill with fresh fuel.

That's the reason why I am thinking to install a 100 litres daily tank on Uhambo.
I will let you know later on. |
