Hopefully you will enjoy these photos from the first few sailing trips of this year:
Worbarrow Bay - who said the English Channel was muddy and cold? Hammock chair suspended from the spinnaker halyard Our ship's dog Racing (and winning) a Malo 39 back from Worbarrow. We were towing the dinghy and still made over 8 kts! Off Durdle Door (a natural stone arch). Previously we had managed to put the bow pratically inside the Door as the winds were so light and the tide just right with no waves. Approaching Portland Bill Not always sunny sailing. Taking a wave over the bow coming out of Weymouth in an F7

I Just had a thought, I have just done the same journey as you from Poole harbour to Weymouth and then across Lyme bay around portland Bill. Have a look at my Blog at www.sailingtoscotland.blogspot.com

They are pretty scary seas around there. You have to be well (5 or 6 miles)offshore to avoid the worst of them. Some say they can be worse than Portland.
At St Albans Head the worst is on the ebb which is what it looks like you had found! Between Peverill and St Albans it can also kick up really badly. We've had the boat right out the water as far back as the keel there last August when I only had 2 teenagers on board. That said the previous day we did the inshore route and you could have played billiards on the water's surface it was so smooth! A bit late now but Worbarrow is almost always a good place to put into on the way down as it very sheltered. On the sunday with rough seas only 100m away there was no wind or any waves in that bay. The last picture (me getting soaked) was in Weymouth Bay on the 2nd. Very good choice not to attempt it that day as the emergency services were getting very worried with people out there who were unprepared. Enjoy and good luck.
