In the States, I have been told that the dealer gets a 20% discount from the Hanse list price. In effect the dealer buys the boat from Hanse for 20% off and sells it to you. His profit is however much he sells it to you above what he paid. I do not know if Hanse ever gives higher discounts to the dealers to sell more boats.

When you order a boat the dealer does not actually have to lay any money out to Hanse since you are paying the deposit and then paying for the boat when it arrives. Unless you are buying a demo boat the dealer has in stock, the dealer did not have to lay any money out.

Since most dealers also bill you for the cost of commissioning which covers most if not all of their costs for commissioning the boat, the mark-up the dealer charges you over what he paid for the boat is pure profit. Granted the dealer has overhead for operating the dealership which has to be paid for, but you get my point.

Ray,

We have not really considered Davits as they may ruin the lines of the boat, also we keep her in a marina and tie up stern too to take advantage of the transom. We quickly got into an unloading and loading routine.

Ray,

Me again, we had the extra winches fitted, the two winches as standard are very busy when reefing, the extra winches whilst not used a lot if self tacking still give some options and the way they are fitted meant we wanted the assurance of factory fitting.

You will struggle to stow your fenders, maybe they will go in the dinghy on Davits, I have 2 cabin layout and that works well

What about inflatable fenders?
I've seen those advertised, would they work?

Never seen re inflatable fenders, regular ones can be deflated of course but I would ask for smaller fenders than the standard, you get 6 so I would trade 2 for a bow fender since thats where bad things happen,
I get the bow fender and one standard in the anchor locker, really there is nowhere else except the cockpit lockers which will take some but then there is a need to store a grab bag, life jackets, bits of rope, engine bits, tool kit and spares, mooring ropes, all the covers from wheels etc, and a dinghy, I have sailed with my dinghy, tubes deflated lashed under the kicker. a 385 gennaker is a big sail and far too nice and valuable to leave on a guard rail in a bag. if you have roller furling be wrong to sail with it up ll the time.
Apart from that issue you'll love it...

Think davits would indeed be nasty, I survived most of the summer with an inflatable stand up paddle board, maybe not for everyone but does stow on deck easily..Excel do a sl230 dinghy that is very light and well made,

I have three cabin version and the fenders stow in the cockpit lockers easily. I do use two one on either side as back rests on the corners at the back of the cockpit where the helmsman sits. The other four easily fit in the lockers.

Thank you everybody for your very helpful responses.

On the basis of replies received I have decided to have the additional winches but not the Davits initially. We will try storing the dinghy etc the third cabin which will not be used very often and see how this works.

Thanks again.
