Hi everybody, I am an happy 400 owner. My hull number is 704, delivered in march 2011, twin wheels. I've been hearing noises from the left column and discovered that the cable is weareed and almost broken. And this happens three days from departure, of course. I'm trying to access the full circuit of the rudder (Jefa, twin wheels cable model) but I'm stuck. I can get to the rudder plate of course, I can probably access the chain by dismantling the wheel at the top of the colums, but how can I get access to the point where the cables get out from the column and angle towards the rudder plate? (I'm not sure about the english proper name, in Italian the two small wheels that guide the wired are called pulegge or boccole, in english maybe pulley or band wheel?) I tried to get access from the lateral afterpeak but after unscrewing I found they are sikaflex-sealed, so, before disamntling everything I'd really like to know what is the correct procedure. And why on earth is by project so difficult to access such a vital part of the boat as the rudder circuit?!?!?! |

Here we go........ Problem solved, even though it required some eight hours of work It turns out than on model 2011 and probably later... there is no access at all at the cables... I had to dismantle the whole platform onto which the rudder wheels are mounted and angle it 90 degrees, after removing cable, rudder sector, autopilot etcetera.... Possibly there arewiser choices to make the rudder circuit inspectable... |

Hi, one of my cables snapped last night while bring the boat down the east coast of Australia. We have taken the boat in under emergency tiller to the dock. what we have been told by Hanse is that the quantrant has to be removed so that the cables can be accessed to the chain. We have also had a problem with the black fitting that houses the rudder shaft coming loose and shearing the bolts off. The boat will be layed up for a week while all this gets fixed. You can also get the drawings of the Jaffe steering system from the web site.

I have the same issue on Hanse 400e Hull #477. Do you have any photos of mounting points to raise cockpit floor? It's not obvious to me how to raise deck.

I checked, pictures do not help actually. You have to locate the round pulgs in the teak texture. Yu cannot miss them. Then You have to use a big screwdriver and a hammer to expel them. This reveal the big bolts you have to unscrew. Once completeli unscrewed it turns on itself, at that point it will be obvious.
First thing first: locate the plugs. If you do not succeed report it here and I will send you oictures made on purpose about the location of the plugs
