I have a 49.5 2012 and the first time we used the swim ladder I found it was to short did not project into the water deep enough to make getting out of the water easy. Additionally, the ladder pulled the fastners out of the wood decking on the transom. Has anyone experienced these problems and dose anyone have a solution?

I have been sailing with my 495 for 5.5 months this summer (delivered in April 2012) and also experienced the ladder as a bit short.

I did not have any problems with the fittings been pulled out of the bathing platform, though. I did fit a wooden board to the two "horizontal pipes" that hold the ladder off the top/front edge of the bathing platform. I was afraid of them breaking the GFK at this point (it is not filled but hollow) and this worked out well.

I also have a short part of rope tied to the first rung and a carbine at the other end that is attached to an eye bolt on the side of the bathing platform before I put the ladder into the fittings. I was afraid of accidentally dropping it on 7 meters of water while anchoring ;-)

The only thing that really does not work are the plastic end peaces in the pipes. I already lost two, because they always come out when you remove the ladder. With my wooden board I luckily do not need the two on the "horizontal pipes" any more, so I had two spares.
would love to go back to sailing like summer 2012 (5.5 months from Slovenia to Turkey with wife and 4 little kids)

I've had my 495 for 18 months (hull #5) and had similar swim ladder problerms. It pulled the fittings out within a short time, although I don't recall thinking it was too short.

The solution I used was to have fabricated a new fitting with an increased plate diameter and 5 screws. So far it seems to be holding.

We had a 400 2012 (445 on order) and had this exact problem.  I have noticed they now have a one piece "cup" receptical now instead of just a ring with a few screws. I took the 400 back to the dealer and they did a great job creating an integrated cup type of system at N/C to us. Bad design which looks like they have fixed in the newer model. I would reach out to your dealer and ask them to supply the new and improved fitting.
