Does any body have any recommendations as it relates to antenna manufacturers?

Hi Joe
After a lot of re-search I found that KVH TracVision gave the best reception for the size of the dome. Here in Australia as you go north you need a larger dome. All manufactures will have maps of your area showing the coverage area of their domes. We have ours mounted on the stern of the boat on an 8 ft post. The only problem we have is when the boat is facing north, when we are up in the northern parts of Australia we loose reception from about 340deg to 10deg. This is due to the satellite being in the northern sky and the mast and furled carbon jib are like a big tree in front of the antenna. Not good when at anchor, facing north and trying to watch the grand final of the football. Not all was lost, we used the bow thruster to keep pushing the boat round. Don,t know what the other boats in the anchorage thought we were doing.
We have a television in the cockpit which we watch while doing long passages. Even sailing in 20 knots and 2mt sea you get a perfect picture. We had it mounted on a Catalina 445 which we have on the market, but we have removed it ready to reinstall in on our new Hanse 575 when it arrives later this year. We are going to mount it in the same way on the 575 and we should be OK to watch the football on the new boat as we have installed a bow and stern thruster.

I installed an Itellian i3 on a scanstrut pole 4 years ago it has never faltered and the tracking is very good, it doesn't have gps however setting the reagion is straight forward.
Signal strength is very good as well, so I am happy with the setup

Joe,

We have had a large Intelligan unit on board the last for about 4 years and have had no problems. We recently changed boats and this vessel has a KVH unit which seems OK but appears prone to loosing contact when the vessel performs tight manoeuvers. The KVH seems very noisy and the dealer said "they can be noisy sometimes". The Intelligan is quiet.
