I want real fast cruising sails (main and jib) for my boat. My current sails are triradial elvstrom sails. I am planning to upgrade my sails with elvstrom carbon epex sails with double sided taffeta tapes(from the options list of hanse). I wonder if anyone had the chance of testing the epex sails. can anyone advise any other fast cruising carbon sails that are fine and longlasting(when they are used with double sided tapes)?
Thanks

Hi Eren,
I have sailed a 445 with the EPEX sails (the top upgrade Hanse offer when ordering the boat) and found them to be quite amazing.
I was quite stunned by the difference between the standard dacron and the Cruising laminate when they were launched a couple of years ago and the EPEX is another step up again.
Really impressive and better value than most as the price reflects the credit for not having the standard dacron sails.
Kind regards
Phil

Eren,
Just a slightly different perspective - I think most folks will appreciate the difference between the standard Dacron sails and the triradial Elvstrom sails that you purchased. However, many folks won't notice the difference between those and the EPEX unless they were racing (or race minded) - which means paying attention to rig tune, etc, etc.... Also, any sail that is carbon based will last a lot longer if it is rolled and not flaked (folded). You may want to rethink that choice for the main if it's not furled. However, if the $$ doesn't bother you, you're a performance minded guy, and want that last 1/10 knot, go for it!! Cheers |

Hi,
I am using the EPEX Genua and the Triradial Main. The Upgrade only for the Genua brings you Upwind 2° more including 0.2knots more Speed. If I saw the Sheeting System of the 505, I would Change that one into a better System (Traveller in front of the Wheels!) Only my two Cents! |

Many thanks for all of your replies. I think I will get the epex sails.
I had an offer from north sails for 3dl 680 sails with double sided taffeta suitable with selden mds mast slider system. the price for main sail and jib is almost 40.000$ which i find a lot!!!! Elvstrom's Epex is much more affordable. Thank you for your help again
